Authorities also identified the woman killed in the incident as 58-year-old Karolyn Alford.  According to police reports, the woman was killed as a result of two gunshot wounds-one to her head, the other to her chest.  Her death has been classified as a homicide.  Both were identified through latent fingerprint comparison.

Officers responded to the Alford home located at 310 Iini Way following a 9-1-1 call at around 10:15 p.m. concerning domestic abuse with possible shots fired.

Barry Alford first joined the Maui Police Department on April 16, 1985.  He served for a little over two years before resigning as a Police Officer II on July 14, 1987.

Alford was rehired on June 16, 1990 and resigned for a second time as a Lieutenant on November 2, 2000.

After a two year break from the department, Alford was hired back at a lesser rank of Sergeant on February 18, 2003 and resigned for a third time on April 30, 2008.
