The Hawaii team from Waipio advances to the U.S. Championship game of the Little League world series after defeating Georgia today in a 12-5 victory.  The Waipio team plays Texas tomorrow in a game that will air live at 10 a.m. (Hawaii time) on KITV-4.

A non-profit account has been established to help players and families cover travel, accommodations, and meals which reportedly have already cost in excess of $10,000 per player.  Tax deductible donations can be made out to the Hawaii Children’s Foundation.  Checks should specify that the donation is for the Waipio All-Stars Little League Team.

The winner of Saturday’s game will move on to play for the Little League World Series Championship against either Japan or Chinese Taipei on Sunday.

The team, accompanied by a loyal contingent of family and supporters, has been on the road since August 4.

“While the community has shown an outpouring of support and praise for the Waipio All-Stars throughout their pursuit of a second Little League World Series title, I encourage those who can to also show their aloha for the team through a monetary contribution to help the families offset some of the travel and related expenses,” said Governor Lingle, who made the first donation.

“These families are on the road this summer because their children love the game of baseball.  They’ve sacrificed a lot – especially financially – so their sons can pursue their dreams.”

“We are all extremely proud of how well the Waipio All-Stars have represented Hawai‘i,” said Chuck Cotton, general manager, Clear Channel Communications, which is helping to promote the donation drive.  “This fund is just one way the people of Hawai‘i can show their admiration and appreciation to the team.  We appreciate Governor Lingle, a known sports fan, initiating this program.”
