Haleakala Hwy accident causes temporary delays

10/18/10 4:48 p.m. Update: 

The Haleakala Highway is now open in both directions.  The Highway was temporarily closed in the mauka bound direction near Firebreak Road because of a traffic accident reported before 3:50 this afternoon.  Motorists can expect the normal slow down as the accident is cleared and traffic resumes its normal flow.  At last report, traffic was still slow moving at around 4:45 p.m.

10/18/10 4:30 p.m. Update:

On the roadways, motorists are advised of a motor vehicle accident reported before 3:50 this afternoon (Monday, October 18, 2010) on the Haleakala Highway near Firebreak Road.  The accident forced the temporary closure of the mauka bound lanes.  At around 4:20 p.m., Maui Police began using the makai bound lanes for contraflow of traffic.  Motorists can expect delays.  (Posted by Wendy Osher)
