Council candidates for West Maui discussed what kinds of transportation options, plans and priorities they support to promote open traffic flow into and out of West Maui.  The question was part of a candidate forum on Monday (October 18, 2010) hosted by the Kahului Rotary at the University of Hawaii Maui College campus.  The Honoapiilani Highway presents a number of traffic and commerce challenges including beach front erosion, fire closures, and accident investigations.

West Maui candidates Elle Cochran and Alan Fukuyama advanced to the General Election after finishing in the top two during the September Primary.  During the Primary, Cochran earned 7,980 votes or 27.7% of the vote, while Fukuyama earned 5,693 votes or 19.8% of the votes cast.  The crowded primary included five other candidates, who did not earn enough votes to advance.  Cochran and Fukuyama meet up again in the November 2nd General Election.

Results will be carried live by our own Pacific Radio Group in coordination with UHMC.  The simulcast will air live on MCTV Channel 55 and KNUI AM 900 starting at 5:30 p.m. on November 2nd.
