Maui’s Rocha-Wilson among 7 BOE members inducted today

The Hawaii State Board of Education held an induction ceremony today (on Monday, Nov. 29), for seven members.  The BOE members were elected to four-year terms during the November 2nd General Election.  Voters also approved of a constitutional amendment that allows future members to be appointed by the governor.

This year, there are three returning members and four new members.  The new members include Maui District Member Leona Rocha-Wilson, Leeward member Maralyn Kurshals, and Oahu At-Large members Pamela Young and Randall Yee.  Returning members that won re-election are:  Central District member Eileen Clarke, Oahu At-Large member Kim Coco Iwamoto, and Windward District member John Penebacker.

Hawaii Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald administered the oath of office during a ceremony this morning at Aliiolani Hale.
