Students across Maui County are invited to enter the 2nd Annual Water Conservation Poster Contest. The contest is aimed at educating Maui students on the importance of water conservation, and to encourage an active role in ensuring the sustainability of Maui’s water supply.

The theme of this year’s contest is: “Save Water Maui County.” Officials from the Maui County Department of Water Supply say the increased demand for water and continuing drought conditions make water conservation a critical lesson for county youth.

The contest is open to all public, private and home-schooled children in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. The entry deadline is March 18, 2011.

Every student who creates and submits an entry will receive a Certificate of Participation. A total of 18 prizes will be awarded with first, second and third prizes presented to winners in each competition level. Winners will also receive a Certificate of Achievement. Winners will receive U.S. Savings Bonds of $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place.

Students can mail or drop off their entry and application form to the Department of Water Supply Water Resources and Planning Division at 59 Kanoa Street in Wailuku (the Hokama Building), or to the Deputy Director’s office on the 5th floor of the Kalana O Maui Building in Wailuku. Information and application forms are available at or by calling the Water Resources and Planning Division at 244-8546.
