Organizers of the Workplace Wellness Fair, in conjunction with Mayor Alan Arakawa’s ongoing Health & Wellness Program, announced today that Registered Dietician Michelle McMurtery will deliver a special presentation offering tips for eating healthy, including basics of diabetes.

The Fair is free and open to the public from 10 am to 2 pm  on April 7, and will feature wellness exhibits and other offerings from over 20 local businesses and community organizations. McMurtery’s free 15-minute presentation will start at 11:45 am in the Mayor’s Lounge at the top of the Kalana O Maui County building in Wailuku.

McMurtery is a graduate of Framingham State College in Massachusetts with a degree in Food in Nutrition. She completed her dietetic internship at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and worked at the Boston Medical Center and UMass Memorial Medical Center.  More recently, her experience has been in providing nutrition consultations in long term care and rehabilitation facilities.

The event is co-sponsored by the County of Maui, Maui Nutrition & Physical Activity Coalition, the Maui District Health Office, and the Communities Putting Prevention to Work grant.
