This is the kind of score Maui High baseball teams are used to winning by. But last night, it was the Sabers who were on the receiving end of a major spanking.

Kamehameha-Maui rode a four-hit outing by right-hander Cody Pundyke, amassed 10 hits – including a solo homer by Pono Hoopii — and capitalized on 10 walks and one hit batsman over five innings for a 14-3 romp past Maui High in the opener of a three-game series.

The victory improved the Warriors’ MIL record to 5-2.

Maui High, meantime, fell to 4-6 and seemingly will have to make some big noise during the MIL post-season event in order to again qualify for the state tournament.

Defending state runnerup Baldwin maintained a two-game lead in Division-I with a 7-0 mark by romping to a 13-2, five-inning victory over King Kekaulike in the other game of the double-header at Iron Maehara Stadium.

Baldwin broke the game open by scoring nine runs in the second inning, dropping Kekaulike’s record to 2-5. Lahainaluna is idle this week has a 2-7 record.

The Division-I matchups remain the same today.

In softball action yesterday, Baldwin routed the King Kekaulike girls 13-3 in six innings and Kamehameha defeated Maui High 7-5.
