The Hosmer Grove Campground area at Haleakala National Park will be closed part of next week to allow for the removal of hazardous trees. The popular and heavily forested area is susceptible to drought and high winds, which contribute to natural hazards such as weak or dead tree limbs, standing dead trees, and partially fallen trees.

The closure begins at noon on Monday June 6, and continues through Wednesday, June 8, or until work is complete.  Work will begin in the public parking lot and campground area.  Park officials say entry into these areas is prohibited during the closure to ensure public safety.

Removal of hazardous trees and limbs will continue until June 18th in various locations within Hosmer Grove. Portions of the trail may be temporarily closed as a result.

Visitors to the area can expect commercial vehicles, equipment and noise from chainsaws and other equipment from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on work days.
