Retro Color Explosion is the theme of the upcoming signature fundraising event for Maui Youth & Family Services (MYFS).  Now in it’s 11th year, the Growing Dreams event helps the social service agency in its mission to build better lives for Hawaii’s families.

Proceeds will be used to support MYFS programs including foster family programs, prevention programs and outpatient treatment for substance abuse and behavioral health.

“As fun and glamorous as Growing Dreams always is, we want to remember what it’s all about,” said Helen McCord, owner of Kula Botanical Gardens on Maui, and chairperson of the 11th Annual event.  “Ultimately the show helps MYFS provide services for Maui’s at-risk children. We believe that regardless of their circumstances, youth can reach their goals with the help of caring, loving foster families and staff members,” said McCord.

The Growing Dreams luncheon, floral design workshop, and auction takes place Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Fairmont Kea Lani Resort in Wailea.

This year’s event features Floral Trend Consultant Kevin Ylvisaker who will work with splashes of color, reminiscent of the the fashion and trends of the 1960’s.

“This show will take us back in time to explore how those colors and trends influenced the design styles of today. So if you’re in the mood to be feeling groovy, this is the show to see,” said Ylvisaker.

Tickets are $125 and $150 for VIP seating.  Tickets can be purchased online at For more information, call 579-8414, extension 8118.

The committee is also looking for corporate sponsors and silent auction donors for the fundraising event.  All of the proceeds from Growing Dreams remain on Maui.
