Morning Quake Rattles Big Island Kona Coast – No Tsunami

There is NO tsunami expected following a small earthquake reported this morning off the Big Island–that according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The earthquake was reported at 6:41 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2011.  The preliminary magnitude was estimated at 3.2 by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center and 3.1 by the US Geological Survey.

The quake was located off the Kona Coast of the Big Island, or 15 miles from Kailua, 18 miles from Holualoa, 20 miles from Hualalai Summit, and 25 miles from Waikoloa.


The depth of the quake according to the USGS was 8.3 miles.
