Victorino Wins Final Vote for All-Star Game

Shane Victorino won his second major election yesterday.

No, the most successful baseball player ever produced on Maui is not running for political office.

For the second time in three years, Victorino landed the 34th – and final — spot on the National League All-Star roster thanks to  on-line fan voting.

The Midsummer Classic will be played Tuesday in Phoenix.  The game will be aire on Maui’s ESPN 550.

Victorino received a record $15.9 million Final Votes in 2009.  He received 9.2 million this year, good enough to beat Andre Ethier of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Todd Helton of the Colorado Rockies, Mike Morse of the Washington Nationals and Ian Kennedy of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Victorino is batting .303 with nine homers and 34 RBIs for the NL East-leading Phillies, who were off on Thursday. Teammates Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee and Placido Polanco have also been selected for the game.

Chicago White Sox slugger Paul Konerko got 8.4 million in the American League, beating outthe Detroit Tigers’ Victor Martinez, Kansas City Royals’ Alex Gordon, Baltimore Orioles’ Adam Jones and Tampa Bay Rays’ Ben Zobrist.
