Maui police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for an arson fire at the Maui/Molokai Drug Court offices early Tuesday morning.
Authorities have since released a surveillance image of the unknown person responsible wearing a hooded jacket and dark-colored long shorts.
Maui Crime Stoppers issued a bulletin today saying the person set numerous items in the office on fire, resulting in an estimated $250,000 in damage.
Authorities with the Maui Fire Department also say forcible entry was made into the building, and that the blaze was contained to one specific unit.
The Maui/Molokai Drug Court offices are located between Gionnatto’s Pizza and the Wailuku Municipal Parking lot at 2050 Main Street.
The fire alarm was reported at 5:25 p.m. and was declared extinguished within 50 minutes.
“Fire damage would have been more extensive if the building had not been protected by fire sprinklers,” said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
The Maui Drug Court office space is now closed until further notice with services temporarily relocated.
Anyone with information is asked to call Maui Crime Stoppers at 242-6966.
