Spreading the Love, Playing for Change: Aloha Fest 2011

This Saturday, September 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a diverse array of multicultural activities, demonstrations, eats, and performances has been planned. The Arts Education for Children Group offers Maui free admission to this day of education and perpetuation of local customs and practices.

Watch live performances from: Lei‘ohu Ryder, Marty Dread, Peter Espiritu of Tau Dance Theater, Na Keiki of Halau Hula Kauluokala, Tatyana Shapiro and Maui Pipe Dreams. The Four Sisters Kitchen will cater this event and offer: Kalua pork, shoyu chicken, beef Teriyaki and Szechuan eggplant with tofu for $8 to $10. Dessert options include: Cascaron and Bibingka at $3 each, or two for $5.  Food will be served from 9 a.m., in the McCoy Courtyard at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.

Later that day, the festival continues in the McCoy Studio Theater with a worldwide event aptly named: “Playing for Change.” The lineup includes: George Kahumoku, Jr., Teri Garrison, Benny Uyetake, Gail Swanson, Steve Grimes, Joel Katz, Anthony Natividad, Maui Underground and others. This fundraising event calls for positive social change through the medium of music.
