A 32-year-old man suffered fatal injuries on the Mokulele Highway late last night while passing the Cane Haul Road intersection.

The motorcyclist was traveling north on the highway at around 10:55 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2011, when he collided with an industrial truck traveling east across the highway at Cane Haul Road.

According to police reports, the motorcyclist had a red light at the time of the crash.

Following the impact, the motorcycle caught on fire.

The operator of the motorcycle died as a result of the crash and was tentatively identified as a 32-year-old man.  His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Authorities say he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.  The truck operator, meantime, was not injured.

The accident was the sixth fatal crash involving a motorcycle this year, and the 15th traffic fatality on Maui County roads in 2011.
