North Shore windsurfers had a thrilling early spring session on Wednesday, March 29 at Ho’okipa Beach Park’s ‘H’poko break as they dodged surfers, stand-up paddle surfers, kite surfers, and water photographers.

Lighter winds at 25 mph, 5 to 8 foot sets, and sunlight until 5:30 p.m. kept a large number of windsurfers at H’poko (The Point) from noon until dusk.

Around 4 p.m. one surfer was seen paddling out in the middle of 15 windsurfers to catch some of Ho’okipa’s best waves of the day.

H’poko waters became too crowded at 5 p.m. when two stand-up paddle surfers and a kite surfer went out simultaneously into the mass of windsurfers. A few moments later, a water photographer limped on the beach after being cracked in the leg by a windsurfer’s board. No serious injuries were sustained.

Spotted on the beach and in the water were pro windsurfers Keith Teboul, Nicolas Cailly, Lalo Goya and others. Teboul says that it was a crowded but fun session.

Spots of sun and decently sized waves on the North Shore kept surf traffic flowing with the swell today, and local forecasts indicate that this weekend has some good conditions in store for that side of the island.
