The state Department of Transportation advises Maui residents of an expected increase in aircraft traffic over the Kahului, Wailuku, and Spreckelsville area due to airfield maintenance work at Kahului Airport.

Runway 2-20 will be closed for airfield maintenance work overnight for the next two days. The closure schedule will be:

  • 11:30 p.m. on Friday night, March 30, to 5 a.m. on Saturday morning, March 31; and
  • 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night, March 31, to 5 a.m. on Sunday morning, April 1.

The maintenance is part of a $1.14 million federally-funded project that includes changing taxiway lights to LED energy efficient lights. The anticipated project completion date is June of 2012.
