A new master plan through 2030 will be unveiled tomorrow (Friday, May 25, 2012) for pedestrians and bicyclists in central Maui.

Organizers say the plan includes a separated pedestrian and bicycle shared-use path linking Waikapu and Wailuku, as well as a network of separated bikeways and sidewalks in Kahului, and a landscaped pedestrian and bicycle esplanade along Kahului Beach Road, fronting the harbor.

The document will be presented by Chris Hart & Partners and NPAC: the Nutrition and Physical Activity Coalition of Maui County to the public at a 5 p.m. gathering at the J. Walter Cameron Center.

The Plan, entitled “Central Maui Pedestrian and Bicyclist Master Plan to 2030” envisions central Maui becoming a world-class pedestrian and bicyclist community.

The Master Plan was funded by the Tobacco Settlement Special Fund, Healthy Hawai`i Initiative, Hawai`i State Department of Health.

The event is also supported in part by: Hui No Ke Ola Pono, the Native Hawaiian Health Care System on Maui.

Architects who are members of the Maui branch of the American Institute of Architects will receive one continuing education credit for attending.

Light refreshments will be served.
