Many of us are so consumed with daily life that we forget to take special time to give our parents the appreciation they deserve.

So, Father’s Day is a big deal. It’s all those days you’ve missed, packed into one. It’s the day when you look Dad (or any father figure) in the eye (computer screen, phone receiver) and say, “Thank you.”

Included below are some of Maui Now’s gift and activities suggestions for Dads  on Father’s Day – Sunday, June 17.

Spend A Few Bucks,”Stoke” Dad

If you’re planning to show off your love for Dad on Father’s Day with a fancy gift, here are a few ways to go about it:

  • Spa Treatment Even Dad deserves to hit the spa at least once a year for a good pampering. The Grand Wailea’s Spa Grande offers a couple of services that dads may appreciate, like a 50-minute champagne or cooling aloe bath for $145, or a massage therapy session starting at $150 for 50 minutes. More options are listed at
  • Home Depot/Lowe’s Gift Card If you’re not sure whether your father would prefer a new pair of gardening shears or some flashy grill accessories, get him a nice card with a gift certificate to Home Depot or Lowes inside so he can choose for himself what he needs most around the house this summer.
  • Father’s Day Brunch Food is a gateway to a man’s heart, no matter what your relationship to him is. This Father’s Day consider taking your father to the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel for an all-you-can-eat buffet with over 70 menu options and free-flowing champagne. The brunch also includes chances to win prizes, a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle display, and a performance from songstress Melveen Leed. Brunch access is $46.95 for adults and $25 for children under 12.
  • Autocross Some of Maui’s more macho dads may appreciate a day gawking at sports cars in Maui Sports Car Club’s Solo Autocross. If they own sports cars, they may even be inclined to participate. Gates open at 8 a.m. at Maui Motor Sports Park in Kihei. Entrance is $25 for members of Maui Sports Car Club of America, and $35 for visitors.

Free Gifts and Activities

Maui is a playground for fathers and their families. If you have an aptitude for water activities, this Father’s Day is the perfect day to load up the car with gear and take a surf camping trip, go spearfishing, try a new sport, take a hike at Twin Falls or Flat Rock – the list is endless in Paradise.

Didn’t your father every teach you about DIY? Do it yourself – make dad something so personal that it cannot be bought. One sugggestion for a personalized home-made gift is a book of coupons (no matter what age you are, this works). You can get creative by decorating the coupon book and filling it with various favors that he one can use over time at his leisure.

If you’re lucky enough to have your father living here with you, throw him a small party with some of his family and friends. Try and organize some games and a potluck; enjoy each other’s company ohana style.

When it comes down to it, most fathers will appreciate any loving gesture from their kids. A simple handwritten card and a smile from one’s offspring is sure to enhance any father’s Sunday, Father’s Day or not.
