Water customers in Upper Kula are being asked to conserve water next week when crews work to tie a new eight-inch water line on Upper Kimo Drive for fire protection purposes.

Contractors will begin work at 10 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, and should be complete by 4 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012.

The water conservation request is being made because the Department of Water Supply will not be able to fill storage tanks during the night while construction is underway.

During the tie-in, customers will be without water on the following streets: Upper Kimo Drive, Nana Pono Place, Kaui Place, Meakoho Place, Alanuilili Place, Upu Place, Haleakala Crater Road, Palena Place, Ponimoi Place, Napoko Place Hapapa Road, Puanani Place, Kekaulike Highway, Pulehuiki Road, Kamehameiki Road, Kolohala Drive, Ihe Place, Hoihoi Place, Ioio Place, Copp Road, Homestead Road, Ululani Street, Wahelani Street, Waiakoa Road, Kuulani Place, Waiakoa Place, Alae Road, Kaonu Place, Ohala Place and Waipoli Road.

In addition, customers on the following streets may have very low or no water pressure: Kawehi Place, Oluolu Place, Koheo Road, Polipoli Road, Pilikino Place, Lepelepe Place, Malamahale Place, Maukanani Road, Malia-Uli Place, Monden Drive, Kulanani Place, and Middle Road.

The Water Department advises that affected customers may want to flush their waterlines for a short time on Friday morning to ensure that no sediment has accumulated during the project.

Affected customers have been notified by the contractor, and are asked to call the Department of Water Supply’s 24-hour service line at (808) 270-7633 only if a water problem occurs.
