A $797,700 state contract was awarded for improvement to the softball fields at Lahainaluna High School on Maui.

State officials say work by Paul’s Electrical Contracting LLC will begin soon.

“I am thankful that Governor Neil Abercrombie has released these monies and that a contract for this important work was awarded,” said Rep. Angus McKelvey whose district includes Lahaina, Ka’anapali, Kapalua, Ma’alaea, and Kihei.

“It is imperative that our students have the best facilities to continue to be successful and safe in not only academics, but athletics as well,” he said.

Money for this project was secured by West Maui lawmakers during the 2010 legislative session in the state budget for Fiscal Year 2010-11.
