Maui Art Galleries launches the website today.

It is designed to be the largest database of art on Maui and was founded by fine art consultant and Maui resident Lawrence Taylor.

The site functions as a portal to attract art consumers and help them sort through art by an artists name, medium, images, and location.

Taylor said he hopes to increase the internet footprint of galleries, provide a venue for increased foot traffic, and better link the estimated 4,000 artists and about 90 galleries on Maui with consumers and art lovers near and far.

“We are working with galleries to develop a process where local artists are constantly being reviewed, prepared and polished for showing in a gallery while there is an eye out for that next great artist from Maui’s ranks,” said Taylor.

The Maui Artist Directory, or MAD, features artists including Anna Good, Roy Tabora, George Allan, and Joëlle.

“MAD is a wonderfully innovative vehicle to connect a wide variety of us [artists] more easily with our potential buyers and collectors. Since the only requirement is a passion for art rather than its commercialism or level of celebrity, MAD helps expose unique and talented artists whose treasures may not otherwise be discovered,” said Zariah, a member of the Lahaina Arts Society.
