The public is invited to pick their own pumpkin at the University of Hawai’i Maui College’s pumpkin patch this Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

The pumpkin patch is a service project put on by the staff, students and community supporters of the UHMC Agricultural and Natural Resources Department.

The project is primarily an outreach and educational venue to help teach the children of Maui County about agriculture, natural and earth sciences, where our food comes from, and the importance of soil and water conservation.

The Pumpkin Patch is located behind the Recycle Center across from the Maui Arts and Cultural Center in Kahului.

Emmanuel Lutheran School in Kahului is also hosting a pumpkin patch event at their 15th Annual Pumpkin Festival.

The event runs from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, October 26; and from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the school campus located at 520 One Street in Kahului.

The event features a pumpkin patch, kiawe grilled chicken, food booths, a silent auction, games, face painting, and live entertainment.

Both events are free and open to the public.
