A Wailuku woman was arrested on Thursday afternoon on suspicion of  attempted murder after she allegedly attempted to run over a man who threatened to break up with her, police said.

The incident was reported at 4:06 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at a residence on North Market Street in Wailuku.

Wailuku patrol officers responded to the report of an abuse in progress.

Police say witnesses and the victim told responding officers that an argument started within the residence, and later ended in the parking lot with the Irene Evans, 36, allegedly attempting to run over the victim with her pickup truck.

According to police reports, the victim suffered minor injuries and pain to his head and shoulder after landing on the windshield.  Police say the impact broke the glass of the vehicle windshield.

Police reports state that the man then jumped off of the truck, at which time Evans then allegedly drove her truck into the victim’s compact sedan causing approximately $3,000 in damage.

Evans was placed under arrest for second degree attempted murder, and second degree criminal property damage, with her bail set at $51,000, police said.

In a police report filed by Maui Police Lt. Jayson Rego, authorities believe the argument started over the victim’s threat to leave or break up with Evans.
