Hawai’i Island police say the island’s tsunami siren system was inadvertently activated today, and there is no emergency.

The false activation occurred shortly before noon when technicians were conducting repairs to the system, authorities said.

Both the Civil Defense Agency and the Hawai’i Police Department issued an advisory this afternoon confirming that there was no emergency, and expressed regret for any confusion or inconvenience the incident may have caused.
