Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa is at the Lānaʻi Tropic Care clinic today as the county kicks off day one of the event.

The free Tropic Care health care clinics begin today and run through June 12, 2012.  In addition to free health care for individuals on Maui, the clinics also serve as rapid response training for some 400 military personnel.

While on Lānaʻi, the mayor will honor the county worker who brought him the tropic care application to sign two years ago, which allowed the county to qualify for the visit, said Maui County Communications Director Rod Antone.

A similar event held on Kauaʻi last year reportedly helped an estimated 12,000 residents and delivered an estimated $1 million in free health services, according to an earlier announcement released by the county.
