Rand Scores Hole-in-one at Chancellor’s Golf Tournament

One lucky player hit a hole-in-one at the 24th Annual University of Hawaiʻi Maui College Chancellor’s Golf Tournament held Saturday, June 28th at the Wailea Old Blue golf course.

Joel Rand, a financial advisor from Wailea used a pitching wedge on the 12th hole, par 3 to hit the ball 135 yards for the sinker, according to a UHMC announcement.

The moment was witnessed by Sandy Fujitani and Dan Regan, and was the second hole-in-one for Rand, the announcement said.

According to Rand, his first hole-in-one was in 2001, also at the Wailea Old Blue course but on hole 18, par 3.

UHMC Chancellor Clyde Sakamoto commented in a university press release saying, “The entire UHMC faculty, staff, and students congratulate Joel Rand for his memorable hole-in-one, and hope he and his team-mates enjoyed the golf tournament at the spectacular Wailea Old Blue course.”

Over the past 24 years $800,000 has been raised through the tournament for several key UHMC programs, according to Chancellor Sakamoto.

Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the UHMC Lānaʻi Education Center, Baccalaureate development, faculty and staff development, and the Maui Culinary Arts Academy.

Chancellor Sakamoto also expressed his gratitude to lead tournament co-sponsors Wailea Old Blue Golf Club, the Wailea Beach Resort & Spa, and Dorvin Leis Co., Inc.

They were joined by record 56 sponsored teams that were comprised of various Maui business people and community members.

UHMC currently offers three bachelor of applied science degrees, and a range of other associate degrees and certificates.
