Alan Wong’s Amasia in Grand Wailea Resort to Close
By Vanessa Wolf
The rumors are once again true.
Internationally known Chef Alan Wong – recipient of the 1996 James Beard award for Best Chef: Pacific – opened Alan Wong’s Amasia in the Grand Wailea Resort in June 2012.
Now it’s been announced that the doors will close permanently in early November.
The resort commented, “We are sorry that Alan Wong’s Amasia will close on November 10. The restaurant was open for 2 ½ years, and we appreciated the support from visitors and the community.
“Grand Wailea is grateful for the commitment of the Amasia Team Members and is looking to find positions for them in other areas of the resort. The restaurant will operate as usual until November 10.”
One of the 12 original founders of the Hawaii Regional Cuisine movement, Wong’s eponymous Honolulu restaurant earned him a place on Gourmet’s “Fifty Best Restaurants” list in 2001.
Fans of Chef Wong’s unique Whole Tomato Salad with Li Hing Mui Dressing, Ginger Crusted Onaga or “The Pineapple” dessert have seven more weeks to dig in here on Maui.
Otherwise, a trip to Oahu will be required.
Alan Wong’s Amasia is located in the Grand Wailea Resort at 3850 Wailea Ala Nui Drive in Wailea. It is open from 5 to 10 p.m. daily through November 10, 2014.
