The Hawaiʻi Government Employees Association today announced the selection of Michele Mitra as its Maui Division Chief.

In her new capacity, Mitra will be responsible for the management of the Maui island division’s day-to-day operations and its staff, who service union members on Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi.

Mitra joined HGEA as a union agent in Oct. 2007.

Prior to her joining the HGEA, Mitra held supervisory and managerial positions at the Four Seasons Resort Maui from 1995 to 2007, including resort assistant manager and reservations manager, according to the HGEA.

Prior to that, she was employed at the Grand Wailea Resort, Hotel and Spa.

Mitra graduated from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in business.

The Hawaiʻi Government Employees Association works to ensure “fair and equitable representation for government employees.”

It is the largest labor union in the state with more than 42,000 members that fall under eight bargaining units.
