Residents in Hāliʻimaile and some areas of Pāʻia on Maui did not have their trashed picked up as scheduled on Thursday, Feb. 26, due to a staffing shortage, county officials announced.

The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division, announced that the missed collection affected all streets in Hāliʻimaile, and the following areas of Pāʻia: Akona, Hikina, Melia, Nihi, Pānini, Poni, Puakou and Ulumau Place.

Department officials say they expect to have the missed routes picked up on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015.

The department apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the community for their understanding and cooperation.
