Hawaiʻi Sex Offender Search App Now Offers Alerts
By Maui Now Staff
The state’s Sex Offender Search mobile app just underwent a major upgrade that now allows subscribers to get alerts whenever an offender has relocated to an area; or when an existing offender has updated their registration information.
App users can now sign up for alerts regarding offenders in an area based on zip code, street name and city.
The state attorney general’s office Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center offers the free app for Apple and Android devices.
A directory is also available free of charge online at the Hawaiʻi Criminal Justice Data Center website.
Chapter 846E, Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes, mandates that the Hawaiʻi Criminal Justice Data Center maintain a central repository of covered offenders in the State of Hawaiʻi.
A covered offender is a sex offender or an offender against minors, as defined in Chapter 846E, HRS. The public can access information that provides the facts about each offender’s criminal conviction.
The app does not provide an estimate of the offender’s level of dangerousness.
Hawaiʻi Sex Offender app is free for download from GooglePlay and iTunes stores.
Both applications were created in partnership with Hawaiʻi Information Consortium, LLC, the official Internet portal manager of eHawaii.gov.
