Maui police temporarily closed Wākea Avenue at Kamehameha Avenue near Hale Mahaolu in Kahului on Friday morning due to a ruptured fire hydrant.

The incident was reported at around 11:30 a.m.

Polices say the hydrant broke when a vehicle collided into it, causing the area to flood.  Water was traveled down the road and was observed as far away as the Kahului Library.

The area was temporarily closed during repairs.
