TONIGHT: Budget Meeting in Kahului; Skate Park Meeting in Pukalani
By Maui Now Staff
The next in a series of public meetings to gather input on the Fiscal Year 2016 budget will be held tonight at 6 p.m. at the Lihikai Elementary School Cafeteria in Kahului.
The Budget Ordinance is the county’s financial plan for the next fiscal year, which begins on July 1st. It determines how much money each department receives to provide services such as fire and police protection, public transportation, water and refuse collection, and how much is collected from the public through taxes and fees.
The final community meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd at the Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani.
Also happening tonight, the first in a series of four community meetings takes place as the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation seeks input on plans for 3 new County skate parks: in Upcountry Maui and on Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi.
Parks staff and skate park design consultants will be on-hand to receive community input on the conceptual designs for the proposed skate parks.
The exact location of the proposed Upcountry skate park is yet to be determined. The proposed Molokaʻi park is at the Mitchell Pauole Center Complex in Kaunakakai; and the Lānaʻi skate park is proposed for construction on 5th Street Park in Lānaʻi City.
Tonight’s meeting runs from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani.
Additional meetings include the following:
- Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 6:45–8:30 p.m. at the Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center, 91 Pukalani Street (meetings held after Zumba class).
