The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management announced that due to insufficient staffing, the Hāna Landfill will close at 1 p.m. on several days over the next week, beginning today.

The early closure time is in effect today April 30, through Saturday, May 2, 2015; as well as Tuesday, May 5 through Thursday, May 7, 2015.

Officials say the closure is necessary for the department to ensure safe operations and meet the minimum state Department of Health operating requirements of the County’s solid waste permit.
