4 Record High Temperatures in Kahului in July

Another record high temperature was set in Kahului over the weekend, bringing to four the total number of record setting days for hot weather on Maui this month.

The National Weather Service reports that the temperature in Kahului on Sunday, July 26, 2015, reached 94 degrees, breaking the old record set for that day in 1969.  It was 6° warmer than normal and 2° higher than the previous record according to the reading taken at 2:44 p.m. at Kahului Airport, said Maui Now Meteorologist Malika Dudley.

Earlier this month, there were several record-tying and record-breaking days for temperature in Kahului including the following:

  • Wednesday, July 1, 2015: A record high temperature of 92 degrees was set in Kahului, breaking the old record for the same day of 91 set in 1980.
  • Thursday, July 2, 2015: A record high temperature of 93 degrees was set in Kahului, breaking the old record for the same day of 91 set in 1951.
  • Friday, July 3, 2015: A record high temperature of 93 degrees was set in Kahului, breaking the old record for the same day of 92 set in 1949.
  • Sunday, July 12, 2015: A record high temperature of 91 degrees was set in Kahului, tying the old record for the same day of 91 set in 1984.
  • Monday, July 13, 2015: A record high temperature of 91 degrees was set in Kahului, tying the old record for the same day of 91 set in 1993.
  • Sunday, July 26, 2015: A record high temperature of 94 degrees was set in Kahului, breaking the old record for the same day of 92 set in 1969.

Forecasters from the NWS are projecting isolated showers this afternoon with highs near 91 degrees and humidity near 61%.

The forecast calls for easterly trade winds in the gentle to moderate range, with the “locally fresh trade winds and typical windward and mauka showers” pattern expected to return on Wednesday.
