Update 7 p.m. – Flood Warning for Maui Replaced by Flood Advisory

The Flood Warning for parts of Maui has been canceled and replaced by a less urgent Flood Advisory.

At 6:48 p.m., although the heavy rain has ended, Maui Civil Defense reports that Kula Highway near Sun Yat Sen Park has been reopened with flood waters receding.

Runoff from the heavy rain is still occurring and water pounding over roadways may last for several more hours. Minor roadway flooding is also being reported in Kihei. Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Kula, Wailea, Makena, Kihei and Keokea.

The National Weather Service has issued a more urgent Flood Warning for the area previously under a Flood Advisory. This means flooding is occurring in the area. Please use caution in the Kula, ʻUlupalakua area.

A radar reading at 4:38 p.m. showed flash flooding with water flowing over the road along the Kula Highway.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for parts of Maui until 6 p.m.

At 3:03 p.m. radar showed heavy rain near Keōkea and Kula, about 15 miles southeast of Kahului. The area of rain was nearly stationary. Locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Kula, Keōkea and ʻUlupalakua.

If you live in a flood prone area, take precautions now as flooding could be imminent.
