Maui Flood Advisory Extended Until 9:30 p.m.

    The flood advisory for Maui has been extended until 9:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service has extended the Flood Advisory for Maui until 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2015.

At 2:43 p.m., radar showed moderate to heavy rain, mainly over windward Haleakalā, and also affecting the Hana slopes and coastline.

NWS forecasters say stream gauges remain elevated. The advisory includes: Kīpahulu, Kaupō, Nāhiku, Hāmoa, Hāna, Haʻikū, Pauela and Huelo.

The Flood Advisory for the island of Maui has been extended until 2:45 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued an update saying radar at 11:45 a.m. showed moderate to locally heavy showers over Windward Haleakalā, primarily over the Hāna Coast and slopes.

“Although showers are gradually diminishing in coverage, stream gauges in both Hanawi Stream and ʻOheʻo Gulch indicate that waters remain elevated, and are still rising slowly.”

Locations in the advisory include: Kīpahulu, Kaupō, Nāhiku, Hāmoa, Hāna, Haʻikū and Huelo.

The National Weather Service has extended a Flood Advisory for the island of Maui until 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015.

Forecasters with the NWS say radar at 9:20 a.m. indicated that moderate to occasional heavy showers continued to affect the Windward areas of Maui, including Windward Haleakalā and Windward West Maui.

The agency says that while the showers were moving steadily to the west near 20 mph, more rain was developing over the slopes an coast, contributing to elevate stream levels and ponding of water on the roadways.  The heaviest rainfall was falling at rates of around one inch per hour.

The advisory includes: Waikapū, Haʻikū, Keanae, Nāhiku, Hāmoa, Hāna, Pāʻia, Paʻuwela and windward West Maui between Wailuku and Honolua.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for the island of Maui until 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015. At 6:35 a.m., radar showed moderate to occasionally heavy showers moving into windward areas of Maui, including Windward Haleakalā and Windward West Maui. Showers were moving toward the west at 20 mph with rainfall rates mainly at or below one inch per hour. Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Kahului, Waikapū, Haʻikū, Hāmoa, Hāna, Pāʻia, Paʻuwela, and Windward West Maui between Wailuku and Honolua. The advisory may need to be extended if heavy rain persists.
