500 Seniors to Attend Annual Kupuna Dinner
A record number of seniors on Maui are expected to attend the Annual Kupuna Dinner, hosted by the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association tomorrow night, Dec. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku.
This year’s holiday feast will cater to 500 senior citizens; and represents the visitor industry’s effort to give back and honor the kupuna of Maui.
Many of the guests include those who have no family to celebrate the holidays with and/or are homebound.
The Wailuku Community Center will be transformed into a festive “hotel-like” dining facility with entertainment and over 200 door prizes. “Each year, the kupuna look forward to an enjoyable evening of celebration with friends and partake in a scrumptious meal prepared by MHLA hotel and timeshare properties,” event organizers said.
Confirmed dignitaries include: Mayor Alan Arakawa, State Senator Gil Keith-Agaran, State House Speaker Joseph Souki, State House of Representative Kaniela Ing, State House of Representative Angus McKelvey, State House of Representative Justin Woodson, Council Chair Mike White, Council Vice Chair Bob Carroll, Councilmember Elle Cochran, Councilmember Don Couch, Councilmember Stacy Crivello, Councilmember Don Guzman, Councilmember Riki Hokama, and Councilmember Michael Victorino.
