Gov. Ige to Sign Lei for Paris Proclamation
Gov. David Ige thanked members of the Lei for Paris group in person this morning, Monday, Jan. 11, at the Fairmont Kea Lani Resort in Wailea.
Spearheaded by Ron Panzo, Sherrie Austin and Timothy Lara, the Lei for Paris group, with community donations and nearly 200 volunteers, created a mile-long lei and shipped it to Paris as a symbol of aloha, kindness and love in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks in November 2015.
A small delegation of emerging youth leaders presented the lei at various events and locations in Paris during their trip to the United Nations COP21 Negotiations in November.
A proclamation from the governor will be presented at Kīhei Fourth Friday on Jan. 22.
