Surfer girl tandems with professional big wave surfer, Paige Alms

The third annual “XOXO” event took place at Launiupoko today.

More than 30 girls participated in the event meant to encourage young girls to pursue their dreams while also learning to surf and standup paddle alongside some of Maui’s top female professional waterwomen.

Among the pros, big wave surfer Paige Alms, windsurfer and waterwoman Ashley Baxter and surfer Kelly Potts.

Kelly says her mission is to “provide young girls on Maui the opportunity to learn surfing, and through surfing help them learn about themselves, how great they are, and how great they can become.”

Maui Now’s Malika Dudley interviewed Paige Alms about the event and even got a couple questions in about this weekend’s massive swell at Pe’ahi “Jaws”. See video interview below.
