Maui surfer, Tyler Larronde, has had some very close calls at the infamous big wave surfing spot, Pe’ahi “Jaws”.

A few weeks ago, on Feb. 11, 2016, during a massive northwest swell that swept through the islands, Tyler found himself in the wrong spot at the wrong time.

He caught a wave at Jaws that hit him like a freight train and drilled his entire leg through his surfboard.

Maui Now’s Malika Dudley caught up with Tyler after his horrific wipeout. He talks about what it’s like surfing Jaws, one of the most dangerous waves in the world.
