Woman Pulled from Ocean a Keawakapu
A Maui woman was pulled to shore on Friday afternoon after she was found floating face-down in waters off of Keawakapu Beach in South Kīhei.
An emergency crew from the Wailea Fire Station (Ladder 14) responded to the report of a possible drowning at around 4:02 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2016, according to Maui Fire Captain Paul Haake.
Upon arrival on scene, firefighters observed several individuals and Maui police officers attending to the woman on shore.
Fire officials say the 41-year-old woman was brought to shore by a beach goer
CPR was initiated and an Automatic External Defibrillator provided by police officers was utilized. The Wailea Ladder crew took over CPR duties upon their arrival, with medics arriving soon after.
Despite all life saving efforts, the woman could not be resuscitated.
The individual was with two acquaintances while at the beach. First responders say is unknown how long she was in need of assistance before being discovered.
The woman’s identity was being withheld until proper notification of next of kin.
