Art of Trash Submission Day April 2
The Art of Trash 2016, a juried exhibit of creations made from reusable materials, will accept submissions on Saturday, April 2, between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.at Maui Mall in the retail space across from Thailand Cuisine.
Driftwood pieces, water features and works that include food are not accepted.
Presented by Mālama Maui Nui and SharingAloha Maui, the Art of Trash event is an annual three-week art exhibit showcasing works made from materials that have been reused, recycled or otherwise reinvented—materials that would ordinarily be discarded as trash.
Centered around Earth Day, April 22, the Art of Trash promotes creative reuse, stimulates environmental awareness and redefines how we view “garbage.”
The goal this year is to find artwork that promotes creative reuse, stimulates environmental awareness and redefines how we view “garbage.”
The public is encouraged to attend the opening reception on Friday, April 8, at 5 p.m. at Maui Mall’s Center Stage.
The event will include the Maui Trashion Show, music, performances, an awards presentation and the opening of the Art of Trash 2016 gallery.
The night will begin with live performances by Robert Sargenti’s Junkyard Band and Marenje Maui, followed by the Trashion Show, a fun, family-friendly event that features garments made from reused, recyclable materials. Attendees are also encouraged to create and wear outfits that inspire reuse.
An artists award ceremony will wrap up the live portion of the evening before the doors to the 2016 Art of Trash gallery open for public viewing.
All events are free and open to the public.
The Art of Trash exhibit will be on display Friday, April 8 through Saturday, April 30, 2016.
