Electrical Service Interruption to Affect 160 East Maui Customers

Maui Electric_Keanae Vegetation Management_July 12 2016: As part of this project, crews have been working to clear areas in East Maui where overgrown and dense vegetation were encroaching on electrical lines.

Residents and businesses of East Maui are advised of a planned electric service interruption on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The outage will affect customers from Keʻanae to Nāhiku. There will also be a momentary service interruption for customers in Hāna town from Kalo Street to Koali at 4 p.m.

An estimated 160 customers will be affected.

Crews are working to clear areas of thick vegetation that is encroaching on electric lines.

Suzuki said, “We know that vegetation management is a key factor in mitigating power outages during storms as we witnessed through Tropical Storm Darby.  This is why we continue to invest on projects such as these that clear trees encroaching on power lines and help to keep the lights on when customers need it most.”

This type of work is scheduled during the summer when conditions are typically safer with less wind and rain.
