The 2015-16 PGA TOUR season came to a close last week, with Rory McIlroy claiming the TOUR Championship and the FedExCup for the first time in his career.

McIlroy, along with 20 other players that finished in the top 30 in the final FedExCup standings are eligible for the 2017 Tournament of Champions, which returns to The Plantation Course at Kapalua on Maui from Jan. 4-8, 2017.

McIlroy, who also won the Deutsche Bank Championship in the FedExCup Playoffs, defeated Ryan Moore and Kevin Chappell in a playoff to capture the TOUR Championship and the FedExCup.

Moore, who won the John Deere Classic in August to qualify for his fifth Tournament of Champions, earned a selection to the US Ryder Cup team for his efforts. Moore’s best finish at the Tournament of Champions was T6 in 2010.

Eight of the top 10 players in the final FedExCup standings have captured a victory in the 2016 calendar year, earning them an invitation to the Tournament of Champions. Notably, 2015 champion Patrick Reed and defending Champion Jordan Spieth finished third and ninth in the final standings. Both players are playing this week on the US Ryder Cup team.

Players eligible for the Tournament of Champions that finished in the FedExCup top 10 include the following individuals along with their final FedExCup standing and 2016 Tournament wins:

Rory McIlroy: 1, Deutsche Bank Championship, TOUR Championship
Dustin Johnson: 2, U.S. Open, WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, BMW Championship
Patrick Reed: 3, The Barclays
Adam Scott: 4, The Honda Classic, WGC-Mexico Championship
Jason Day: 6, Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, THE PLAYERS, WGC-Dell Match Play
Ryan Moore: 7, John Deere Classic
Jordan Spieth: 9, Tournament of Champions, DEAN & DELUCA Invitational
Russell Knox: 10, Travelers Championship

Of those players that finished in the top 10 and are qualified for the Tournament of Champions, five are playing in this week’s Ryder Cup: Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Ryan Moore and Jordan Spieth.

Players have seven more opportunities to qualify for the 2017 Tournament of Champions as the 2016-17 PGA TOUR season kicks off Oct. 13 at the Safeway Open in Napa, California.

The 2017 Tournament of Champions returns to The Plantation Course at Kapalua Jan. 4-8, 2017. All four competitive rounds will be broadcast on Golf Channel.
