Two men were transported to the hospital with critical life-threatening injuries following a head-on collision on Kahului Beach Road in Central Maui on Tuesday night.

The accident was reported at around 10:21 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016 on Kahului Beach Road, south of Kanaloa Avenue in Kahului.

Police say a grey 2000 Nissan truck was traveling north-bound on Kahului Beach Road when it crossed left of center of the yellow median and collided head-on into a silver 1992 Mazda van which was traveling in the opposite direction.

Police say the Nissan was being operated by a 33-year-old Wailuku man who was wearing his seat belt; and the Mazda was being operated by a 48-year-old Wailuku man who was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.

Neither vehicle had any passengers.  Both operators suffered critical life-threatening injuries and were transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Police say the involvement speed, drugs and alcohol are under investigation.
