James Noel Martin

James Noel Martin
December 24, 1929 – January 10, 2017

James Noel Martin, 87 of Pukalani, passed away on Jan. 10, 2017. He was born when Hawaiʻi was still a Territory, in Puʻunēnē, Maui, on Dec. 24, 1929. He attended Puʻunēnē Elementary, where his mother taught and graduated from Baldwin High School where his father taught in 1948.

James served in the Air Force and graduated from Cal Polytechnic State University in 1957 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. James started his teaching career at Lahainaluna High School, teaching Geometry and Machine Shop there for 12 years. He then taught Math and Shop at Makawao Elementary for 12 years, and Math and Shop at Kalama Intermediate School until he retired.

At Lahainaluna High School, the machine shop students provided school service while learning the trade of machinist under the advisorship of Mr. Martin. The construction of the school sign and torch was one such project. James enjoyed model trains, flying remote control planes, woodworking, machinery and his island home, Maui. He has lived in Pukalani for 48 years.

Three daughters survive him: Noella (Bob) Martin-Murdoch of Olinda, Jennifer Martin of Mount Shasta, California, and Jayma (Bailey) Kessing of New Market, Maryland. Five grandchildren: Kristofer (Sarah) Orre, Heather & Forrest Murdoch, Zachary & Emile Paige Kessing. Two Great-Granddaughters: Ella & Alana. One sister: Mary Swain of Virginia. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 59 years, Jacqueline (Jackie) Martin in 2011.


Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 18 at Norman’s Mortuary in Wailuku, starting with visitation from 5:30 to 7 p.m.  Service will be at 7 p.m. followed by a reception. Burial will be held at Makawao Veteran’s Cemetery Thursday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m.


Nathanael Guerrero
February 6, 1956 – January 8, 2017

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at Norman’s Mortuary.  Service begins at 7:30 p.m.  Visitation will also be held from 9 to 10 a.m on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at Norman’s Mortuary with service to begin at 10 a.m. and burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku.

Natanel is survived by his brother; Nehemiah (Martina Castro) Guerrero, sisters; Lornabeth (Carlo) Tobias, and Delima (Jeff) Hoylman.


Valentine “Val Boy” Redo
May 29, 1966 – January 6, 2017

A Memorial Service will be held at the Keʻanae peninsula ball park on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017 at 11 a.m.

Redo is survived by his mother, Janet Hueu Redo of Keʻanae, Maui; sons, Akahi Eleu Makakilo Redo and Alohi Hoano Ola L.V. Redo; sisters, Shana Lee Kaikala (Todd) of Kula, Maui, LinLoy Redo Domingo (Melvyn) of Dallas, Texas, Meiling Hoopai (Rocky) of Hāna, Maui; hānai sister Terry Kimokeo (Kaipo- deceased) of Hilo, Hawaiʻi; hānai brothers, Val Mana Redo and Kekai Redo of Keʻanae, Maui.

He is also predeceased by his father, Lloyd Val Redo and sisters Valery Redo and Valma Redo; maternal grandparents Maleka Pahukoa and James Keola Hueu; paternal grandparents Valentine and Leinaala Redo.

Edwin Eddie Kaliko “Pops” Naeole
August 14, 1933 – January 5, 2017

Edwin Eddie Kaliko “Pops” Naeole, 83, of Kula, passed away on Jan. 5, 2017 at Kula Hospital. He was born on Aug. 14, 1933 in Haʻikū, Maui.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary, Kahului.  Service will begin at 7 p.m., and cremation will follow.

Edwin was a tour bus driver for Greyline Tours, Hawaiʻi Discoveries Tours, and Nō Ka ʻOi Tours.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Auweloa Naeole; sons, Kaliko Naeole, and Harry L. (Carolyn) Auweloa; daughter, Gwen (Wayne) Watanabe; daughter-in-law, Helen Auweloa; brothers, Leroy (Ellenmae) Naeole, and Herman (Irene) Naeole; grandchildren, Kula Naeole, Harli (Kawika) Bicoy, Diane (Tranq) Pascual, Cowboy (Ciera) Auweloa, Tuff Auweloa, Grace Auweloa, and Kuulei Kaaukai; and six great-grandchildren.

Darlene Kay Sepulvida, 46, of Ocean View, Hawaiʻi, was born in Anchorage, Alaska on June 9, 1970, and passed away on Jan. 2, 2017 in Ocean View, Hawaiʻi. Darlene was a homemaker.

She is survived by sons Jordan (Shelly) Bennis of Ocean View; Jayson Robinson of Anchorage, Alaska; Jack Robinson of Texas; daughter Jayde Whiting of Kailua Kona; brothers Steve Bennis Jr. of Valdez, Alaska; sisters Shannon Morton of Korea; Shaelene Nickoli of Ruby, Alaska and two grandchildren.

Services will be held in Alaska.

Sandra (Sande) Yarborough

Sandra (Sande) Yarborough
January 12, 1950 – December 26, 2016

Sandra (Sande) Yarborough, 67, of Ha‘ikū, passed away on Dec. 26, 2016.

She is survived by her husband, Tim; three grandchildren—Naia, Areille and Jet; and sisters Sharon (Marty) Heintzman of Makawao and Karen McMaugh of Riverside, California.

She was a longtime employee of Bowman Termite and Pest Management Company.

A celebration of life and memory sharing will be held on Jan. 21 at Waipuna Chapel, 17 Omaopio Road in Kula, from 10 a.m. to noon.
