The 2017 Art of Trash and Trashion Show took place at Maui Mall on Friday, April 7, with hundreds of local residents showing up to show support.

From hula skirts made from plastic bags to an entire dress made from sheet music, children and adults alike participating in the annual Trashion Show turned heads with their eccentric and creative garments.

Wilma Nakamura, founder of local non-profit SharingAloha Maui and partner in the event, said this year’s show was one of the best yet.

“The music, Trashion Show, and exhibition just gets better and better each year,” she said.

Nakamura works with local non-profit Mālama Maui Nui on the event each year. The annual Art of Trash show is designed to inspire environmental awareness of trash, and give a new perspective on how individuals can look at the waste stream differently.
