A school counselor, kindergarten teacher and 5th grade teacher at Princess Nahiʻenaʻena Elementary School, were recognized with Educator of the Month awards issued by Duke’s Beach House.

Alicia Alcaraz, Linda Rickard and Pam Kaniho of Princess Nahiʻenaʻena Elementary School earned the awards for February, March and April respectively.

Alcaraz, a school counselor, has coordinated the school’s career fair in conjunction with Lahainaluna High School’s Career and Technical Education Department.  Through her guidance, students were introduced to career pathways including health, business, agriculture, building and construction, auto and culinary.

Rickard is a Kindergarten teacher who was nominated by her peers for being a great team player and important addition to the school.

Kaniho, a 5th Grade Teacher, was recognized for assisting a parent who was experiencing a medical emergency while dropping off their child at school.  Kaniho is credited with taking quick action, to ensure the parent’s vehicle was stopped, parked and no one was injured.

“Duke’s is thrilled to be able to acknowledge the amazing and heroic work that the staff at Princess Nahiʻenaʻena are providing for our keiki,” said Noah Yamada, General Manager Manager. “Education is so important and through our Legacy of Aloha Program, we are able to acknowledge and support the outstanding teachers in our community.”

All three award recipients were presented with an engraved Koa box and a $100 gift certificate to Duke’s Beach House.

On Maui, Duke’s Beach House is located along the North Beach of Kāʻanapali, with menu offerings that feature Hawaiʻi-influenced cuisine.
