A 52-year-old Kahului man suffered fatal injuries in a single vehicle accident in Waikapū on Saturday night.

The incident was reported at 1:37 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the King Kamehameha Golf Club.

According to police reports, the collision occurred as a red 2005 Chevrolet 2500 HD Work Truck was traveling east down the private driveway of the King Kamehameha Golf Club when it drifted off the roadway and struck an open metal gate.

Police say the lone male operator of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The operator has since been identified as William C. White, 52, of Kahului.

Police say a preliminary investigation reveals that White was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is ongoing.

This is Maui County’s fourth traffic fatality of 2017, compared to six at the same time last year.
